What is an online learning portal?

A web portal is a site (or sometimes just a screen) that gathers together lots of different types of information in one place. That might be links, pictures, podcasts, PDFs - anything, providing it's related to the theme in hand.

An e-learning portal follows this model, but will typically have themes like induction, compliance or product knowledge.

So let's say you want to teach your employees all about a range of new products, but you don't want to force them to sit through a long course in one sitting. They could dip into an online learning portal site, download a podcast for their mp3 player, open a PDF, check out a couple of links, use an online forum then do a short e-learning course.

The quality of content is paramount. But the portal also needs to have a great look. Whether you want to look youthful and funky, or experienced and stately, we have the skills to project the right image for your organisation.

Get it right and your e-learning portal will be your employees' first port of call now and in the future

What are learning and performance support portals useful for?

  • Communicating something in a way that's lively, engaging, contemporary and interactive.

  • Connecting people to different types of material. Maybe you have video clips, podcasts, PDFs, e-learning courses, all covering similar subjects. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't just use your portal to house e-learning courses. The choice is yours!

  • Playing to the strengths of your audience by giving messages in different formats. Perhaps they're activist learners (who like trying out different things) or they're on the move, or they like Web 2.0 sites.

  • Updating and adding further information at a later date. Our portals are designed so you can add items without it looking cluttered.

  • Record what users are accessing and downloading, or see any scores from quizzes they've taken. We can track all this information in the same way as we track any e-learning - either using your Learning Management System, or ours Launch & Track.
