Internal communications strategy and campaigns

Got something important to say? Make your audience sit up and listen.

What's the point in spending time and money developing an e-learning course if no one knows it's there? You can use an internal communication strategy to spread the word.

Take a look at our internal communications video below to find out more.

Let's say you want to raise the profile of a new law that's coming into force so your target audience will see a need for the upcoming training. You could e-mail a link to a 30-second multimedia trailer to grab their attention. Then when the training is released, they're much more likely to sign up - all thanks to your effective internal communications strategy.

Or you might use the communications piece to deliver a message in its own right (without the need for follow-up training). These are good if the message you want to communicate is short and simple. You could treat it more like a 30-second ad.

Either way, multimedia 'comms pieces' are a great way of presenting key messages persuasively, unambiguously and consistently across the organisation with maximum impact.

Benefits of corporate internal communications

There are many benefits to using effective internal communications within your organisation and ensuring the right employee communication tools are in place:

  • Sell the benefits of upcoming training, increasing the number of people who sign up.
  • It's small and easy to distribute. Launch as an email attachment, send round a link, or deliver it on CD, USB key or floppy disk (if you want to go retro!).
  • Just like a TV advert, key messages are communicated with maximum impact.
  • Raise awareness - take a campaign approach to really change behaviour.

Internal communication strategy case study: Exel

"It's one thing to have developed the training but it's not much use if people don't see any reason for doing it in the first place."

To reduce its exposure to legal action by ensuring that all managers understand the consequences of compliance law, Exel commissioned 9 half hour e-learning modules.

But there was also the challenge of how to get the target audience to appreciate the need for them to do such training in the first place.

The answer was a communications trailer sent as a link in e-mails to all the target audience. The trailer was a 45-second animation with arresting and unusual images to catch the eye and communicate the key messages ending on a 'Coming to a desktop near you' style message re. the training modules.
