Tomorrow's chip paper
Some final thoughts inspired by our recent workshop on the e-learning business for people new to the industry.
Some final thoughts following our recent workshop on the e-learning business for people new to the industry.
We wanted to show old e-learning, CBT on floppy discs, multimedia etc but a) couldn't find any and b) even if we had, we wouldn't have been able to run it. I've got some old courses on CD-ROMs that I can't run. These were off-the-shelf management training courses that once sold for over £500 and were by no means the posh ones!
So 25 years on is it too late? Is there really nothing to show for all the sound and the fury, the sheer hard work, the awards etc. Is what we spend year after year developing really just virtual chip paper? But newspapers dating back hundreds of years can be found in the local library. Not so e-learning.
On the basis that most things end up in museums, perhaps it's time to scrape together anything that's still out there before it's too late, though even then I'm assuming it would be impossible to see it because of the software. There's a moral here somewhere about vanity but I'm not sure what it is.
