Brightwave, the workplace learning specialist, has recently completed an innovative e-learning programme on business continuity for Cable & Wireless, one of the world's leading international communications companies. The highly interactive course helps employees plan what to do in the event of a disaster and instructs them about how to minimise business impacts.
"We needed to make sure our colleagues around the globe were fully aware of our business continuity process. Due to the scale and need for rapid deployment and re-usability, e-learning was the obvious delivery option," said Mike Booth, Manager, e-learning Services for Cable & Wireless.
Russell Williams, Cable & Wireless Business Continuity Manager added: "The continuity of our business and the services we provide to our customers are paramount to us. With offices all around the world you are always at risk from natural disasters, as well as more fundamental risk such as cyber attacks. The e-learning course that Brightwave created raises the awareness of our colleagues and gives them an understanding of our Business Continuity Strategy. This means that they will know how to react in the event of any crisis or disaster. We chose to work with Brightwave because they demonstrated an understanding of our learning objectives and came up with a creative solution that we knew would be successful."
Instead of developing a traditional linear e-learning course Brightwave came up with a concept that gives Cable & Wireless staff the opportunity to learn through a variety of ways. The programme contains movies, interactive briefings and an online assessment section. Throughout the course, learners can choose to either run the course on the Internet or download files onto portable devices to read later. They are also given the option to print off information and do the entire learning offline, returning only to complete the assessment.
To encourage staff to take the course, Cable & Wireless email the learners with a high impact multimedia trailer to capture their attention and to provide immediate access to the course.
"Business continuity can be a dry and sensitive subject so it was important that Cable & Wireless took a motivational and engaging approach," said Lars Hyland, Director of Learning Services for Brightwave. "We always encourage clients to think carefully about the way they promote their learning and include internal communication in the project from the start. Without motivation and knowing why a subject is important, learners will not get the full benefit of the programme. This approach works well across all areas of corporate compliance and policy."
The e-learning programme is tracked according to the SCORM standards and integrates with the company's Learning Management System.
